“Philosophy” is derived from Greek words meaning “love of wisdom,” and uses the tools of logic and reason to analyze the ways in which humans experience the world. It teaches critical thinking, close reading, clear writing and logical analysis to understand the world and our place within it.

Religious Studies involve scholarly inquiry into ​religious beliefs, traditions and practices and the influence that these traditions have on our political, social, spiritual and creative lives. Religion courses at Dallas College help develop marketable and life skills such as intercultural competence and global citizenship, as well as preparing the student for advanced academic pursuits.

Various courses include an introduction to philosophy, ethics, social and political philosophy and religion. Philosophy courses, which includes Religion courses, are listed under the four-letter rubric (course prefix) PHIL.
