“I was born in Bandar-E Pahlavi, Iran, but came to the United States a little over three years ago to pursue the American dream. To find my niche, I decided to start attending college in the spring of 2015, and there I discovered my passion for accounting While taking Individual Tax Return courses, my professor, Becky Knickel, advised me to participate in the VITA program, which gives students the opportunity to work with the IRS by volunteering as an income tax assistant to low-income participants. Another professor, Roberta Ansiaux, referred me to Dallas North Share Ministries, where I volunteered as a bookkeeper to add to my experience. I currently work at a logistics company as an accounts payable specialist.

“I am a certified accounting clerk and accounting assistant, and also have a certification in Quick Books. I am very proud to have earned my associate degree in Accounting in May, 2018. I have never given up, despite my lack of experience in accounting, the U.S culture and communication skills.

“My goal is to become a CPA and I will let nothing get in the way of achieving that. I plan ton continue my education, take the CPA exam and earn a master's degree. I know it sounds impossible, but I believe that my hard work and dedication will get me through it.

“None of this would be possible without DCCCD and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have attended. My husband, Peyman, always inspires, encourages and supports me. I believe that the secret to my success has been to never give up, no matter the circumstance.”

Dallas College student Bachelor’s Degree of Applied Technology
“After being homeschooled and graduating high school with dual credit prerequisites already done, I went straight into the workforce, no intention of getting a degree. I worked in a warehouse for about a year and thought about going into welding, but I injured my back. ... At that point I decided to go for my associate degree, which I accomplished, and now I’m working to get my bachelor’s degree of applied technology in software development this fall. I love that I can do it 100% online because I also take care of my family every day.”
