“My day begins at 5 a.m. each morning: a stop by the donut shop for a coffee and glazed donut, and I'm in my facility foyer by 5:30 a.m. I begin my workday with taking down the chairs and wiping down all the tables and surfaces. Then I head to the gym to take out the tricycles, our reading nook furniture and balls.

“Afterwards, I get my classroom ready for the day, and begin to 'find my center.' In the gym, I greet each child and parent, marking the time the family arrives. If there's a child needing a little help with separation, I help with that transition. I lead our morning devotion each morning with songs and a Bible story.

“I assist the children in serving breakfast -- family style -- as well as lunch and an afternoon snack. I observe and supervise the children as they interact with each other in activities indoors and outdoors. I develop our children to be independent and self-sufficient, implementing lesson plans developed by Frog Street Press.

“Honestly, the best part of my Dallas College experience was the peers and instructors I met along the way. I had the privilege to learn from passionate and knowledgeable minds. Listening to stories and scenarios from them helped me not only to excel in the classroom but in my professional growth.

“The program gave me all the knowledge and resources for a lifetime. My education has equipped me with the tools to have a 13-year tenure in the early childhood field. I've been challenged to become more disciplined in having a plan to follow through until each goal is achieved.

“My Dallas College education taught me to be a better me.“

Jason Williams earned an associate degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education.

“What surprised me the most about Dallas College was that a Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education and Teaching is offered. Both my mother and father went to college but never earned a degree, which means I will be the first to earn a bachelor’s degree.”
