What skills or knowledge did you learn throughout the program that you found most useful in your career?

I found the professors who spoke of real-world experiences most valuable. I also would often refer to textbooks on law or tradeshow 101 guides when I was new in my career too. I also found the mentor program instrumental in making me truly understand and become successful. I hands down would not be the planner I am today without that experience.

What advice do you have for students as they look for future careers or future programs to apply to?

Try things out - you may discover something you have a passion for that you didn’t know about. Events and Tradeshows have so many facets! There are so many careers within this one industry!

What has your typical role on a team been?

I have been an individual contributor supporting tradeshows and events and have been the event lead on both small to million-dollar exhibits. I also have thoroughly enjoyed managing an events team in the past where we worked through a heavy calendar of tradeshows and events throughout the year.

What is the most challenging part of your work?

Pivots! The industry is changing and so are the expectations. Being flexible is important but can also be challenging when you need to shift direction quickly.

What is the most rewarding part of your work?

Seeing it all come to fruition! The high of a successful program or tradeshow booth never gets old!

“This program definitely made me feel inclusive and opens its doors to all walks of life to an industry that otherwise I would have never experienced or found on my own. I would tell people going through the program to take risks and try as many positions in this field. You never know when you may find your niche.”
