Types of Quizzes

Asynchronous Quiz

A quiz can be taken at any time during the quiz period by clicking on the Start Quiz! button.

Synchronous Quiz

A quiz must be taken at a specified time. The quiz uses a timer at the Start Date and ends at the specified time regardless of when a student begins the quiz.

Tip: Go to the Quiz Information and Start Quiz pages to see the countdown timer for when the quiz will begin.

Quiz Using Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure way to take a quiz. You will need to download and install the application from the Quiz Requirements section prior to taking the quiz.

“Start Quiz!” Button

Click on the blue “Start Quiz!” button when you are ready to take the quiz. If the button is not visible, it is due to one of the following:

  • The quiz start time during the quiz period is in the future.
  • The quiz has already been completed.
  • All allotted quiz attempts have been used.
  • The quiz end date during the quiz period has passed.

Quiz-Taking Tips:

  • Visibility: If you cannot find a quiz, contact your instructor.
  • Password: Your instructor may choose to password-protect a quiz. Contact your instructor if you do not know the password or the password provided is not working.
  • Timer: A quiz timer is available as a tool, if it will help you. You can opt to show or hide the timer.
  • Warnings: Time warnings are provided when 1 minute remains for all quizzes, 5 minutes remain for quizzes with 10+ minutes, and half the time remains for quizzes with 20+ minutes.
  • Question Types: Your instructor may choose from 12 different question types including True or False, Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blank, Matching, and Short and Long Answer Written Responses.
  • Your instructor may also choose to include bonus questions for extra points or point deduction questions for partial points.
  • Your instructor may choose to allow multiple quiz attempts. You are able to retake a quiz as long as you have not passed the quiz period, you have not exceeded the number of allotted quiz attempts, and you have not gone over the time limit.
