DALLAS – Dallas College welcomes Cristina Kahlo — acclaimed photographer, curator and grandniece of legendary Mexican artist Frida Kahlo — for a series of cultural and artistic events at its Mountain View Campus in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Cristina Kahlo is considered one of Mexico’s most prominent contemporary photographers. Her 30-year career follows in the footsteps of her great-grandfather, Guillermo Kahlo, and father, Antonio Kahlo — both well-regarded photographers in their own right. She also serves as co-curator of Kahlo: An Expanded Body, an exhibition that investigates Frida Kahlo’s medical history through her art.

“We are more than excited to host Ms. Kahlo at Dallas College Mountain View Campus,” said President Macario Hernandez. “At Dallas College, we are committed to offering programs that reflect and celebrate the diversity of the communities we serve. We take great pride in welcoming Ms. Kahlo to our campus and sharing her work with students and the broader community.”

Carlos Rovelo, professor of humanities at Dallas College, echoed the excitement.

“The significance of Cristina Kahlo’s visit to Dallas College cannot be overstated,” Rovelo said. “She is the living legacy of one of contemporary Mexico’s most celebrated families — from her great-grandfather and great-aunt to her father. Cristina is fiercely creative and engaging. She is the critically acclaimed resident scholar of the Kahlo family legacy.”
