This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Welding associate degree. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Welding Applications. A student must complete all courses in ONE specialization (MULTIPLE PROCESSES WELDING SPECIALIZATION, PIPE WELDING AND FITTING SPECIALIZATION, or FABRICATION SPECIALIZATION) to be awarded the Welding Applications AAS. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official degree requirements.
The Welding Applications AAS and Welding Applications Certificate consist of the same welding courses. The only difference between them is the AAS requires a small amount of additional academic coursework that the certificate does not require. Upon completion, students should possess the skills and knowledge for successful careers in welding. The welding portion of both awards prepares students to successfully apply technical knowledge and skills in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) to join or cut metal surfaces. Students are able to choose from three different emphasis: Multiple Welding Process, Pipe Welding and Fitting, or Fabrication. Courses that complete the degree, Welding Applications Certificate (WA), Rising Welder Occupational Skills Award (RWOSA), the Rising Welder Certificate (RW), the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) OSA (GMSA), the Multiple Processes Welding Occupational Skills Award (MOSA), the Pipe Welding and Fitting Occupational Skills Award (POSA), the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Occupational Skills Award (SMOSA), the Structural Welding Occupational Skills Award (SOSA), the Weld Fabrication Occupational Skills Award (FOSA), and the Structural Welding Certificate (SW) are noted below.
