This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Power Sports and Equipment Technology – Power Sports Occupational Skills Award. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a certificate in Power Sports. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

This program is designed to train students to meet entry-level requirements in the field of motorcycle, ATV/UTV, side by side, outboard, and personal watercraft mechanics.  This will include diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of foreign and domestic motorcycle and powersport equipment.  Included in this program is the study of fuel, ignition and electrical systems, engine overhaul. tune-up, chassis, and drive systems.  Throughout the entire program an emphasis is placed on the latest factory recommended techniques. Courses that complete the occupational skills award are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.

SEMESTER 1

CHOOSE ONE:

  • MTRC 1405 – Motorcycle Service Principles OR
  • SMER 1404 – Marine Equipment Service Principles

CHOOSE ONE:

 

  • MTRC 1402 – Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair OR
  • SMER 1401 – Marine Systems Maintenance and Repair

CHOOSE ONE:

 

  • MTRC 1419 – Motorcycle Four Stroke Engine/Transmission This is the capstone course for this award. OR
  • SMER 1407 – Marine Engine Overhaul This is the capstone course for this award.

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach to confirm academic and career goals before the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with your success coach to research your career options and opportunities for job shadowing.
  3. Meet with your success coach to request an official program of study audit and confirm or update your academic and career path and program of study.
  4. Meet with your success coach for assistance in preparing for job search.
  5. After reviewing your degree plan and program of study, meet with your success coach to apply for the Power Sports Occupational Skills Award.
