This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Criminal Justice-Digital Forensics and Private Investigation Certificate. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Level I Certificate in Criminal Justice-Digital Forensics and Private Investigation. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

The Level I Certificate program in Criminal Justice-Digital Forensics and Private Investigation will focus on the basics of the gathering and the analysis of evidence. Courses that complete the Level I Certificate are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites, as long as the student completes the TSI waiver form prior to enrollment.

CJSA 1330 – Cybercrimes This course or SLPS 2333 is the capstone course for this award.

CRIJ 2314 – Criminal Investigation

HMSY 1337 – Introduction to Homeland Security

ITSY 1300 – Fundamentals of Information Security

CHOOSE ONE:

  • SLPS 2330 – Security of Computers & Data OR
  • SLPS 2333 – Private Investigation This course or CJSA 1330 is the capstone course for this award.

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach to confirm academic and career goals before the end of the semester.
  2. After reviewing your degree plan and program of study, meet with your success coach to apply for the Digital Forensics and Private Investigation Certificate.
