This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Auto Body Technology. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Auto Body Technology. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official degree requirements.

The A.A.S. degree in Auto Body Technology introduces the student to all facets of auto body repair and painting. Emphasis is placed upon the development of the necessary skills and knowledge required to function successfully in this industry. The program of study includes technical aspects of metal behavior combined with correct repair and refinishing procedures. Courses that complete the degree, Auto Body Technology Certificate (TC2), Auto Body Shop Management Occupational Skills Award (MgmtOSA), Auto Body Shop Management Certificate (MgmtC), Auto Body Metal Technician Occupational Skills Award (MOSA), Auto Body Metal Technician Certificate (MC), Auto Body Painter Occupational Skills Award (POSA) and Auto Body Painter Certificate (PC) are noted below.

SEMESTER 1

ABDR 1419 – Basic Metal Repair (Course also applies to TC2, MC, MgmtC, PC)

ABDR 1455 – Non-Structural Metal Repair (Course also applies to TC2, MOSA, MC)

ABDR 1307 – Collision Repair Welding (Course also applies to TC2, MOSA, MC, PC)

CHOOSE ONE: 

  • SPCH 1311 – Introduction to Speech Communication OR
  • SPCH 1315 – Public Speaking OR
  • SPCH 1321 – Business and Professional Communication These are Core courses. (Course also applies to TC2)

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

ENGL 1301 – Composition I This is a Core course. You must earn a grade of “C" or better.

  1. NOTE: The Custom Auto Street Rod Fabrication certificate requires three additional courses, ABDR 1303, ABDR 1359, ABDR 2359.

MATHEMATICS ELECTIVE* This is a Core course. You must earn a grade of “C" or better. (Course also applies to TC2)

CHOOSE ONE:  

 

  • ABDR 2380 Cooperative Education-Autobody/Collision and Repair Technology/Technician OR
  • ABDR 2388 – Internship-Autobody/Collision and Repair Technology/Technician (Either course also applies to TC2, PC. ABDR 2380 or ABDR 2388 is the capstone course for this award.)
