Surveyors make precise measurements to determine property boundaries. They provide data relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth's surface for engineering, mapmaking, and construction projects. They use a variety of measuring equipment and technologies depending upon the type of survey including modern Total Stations, Digital Levels, the Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and remote sensing systems including Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Boundary or land surveyors are licensed by individual States to determine the legal property lines and help determine the exact locations of real estate and construction projects. Surveyors also work with civil engineers, landscape architects, cartographers and photogrammetrists, and urban and regional planners to develop comprehensive design documents. Courses that complete the degree also complete the Land Surveying Certificate (C), Surveying Occupational Skills Award (OSA) and Rising Land Surveyor Certificate (RC) and are noted below.
