This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Commercial Electrical Technology Certificate. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a certificate in Commercial Electrical Technology. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. Completion of all courses listed below qualifies a student for a Certificate in Commercial Electrical Technology. The courses may be taken in any order after consultation with the instructor. Courses listed below complete this certificate and also the Rising Electrical Technician Occupational Skills Award (OSA), Rising Electrical Technician Certificate (RC). See catalog for official certificate requirements.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.

ELPT 1311 – Basic Electrical Theory (Course also applies to OSA, RC)

ELPT 1321 – Introduction to Electrical Safety and Tools (Course also applies to OSA, RC)

ELPT 1370 – Electrical Blueprint Reading (Course also applies to RC)

ELPT 1325 – National Electrical Code I (Course also applies to OSA, RC)

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach to confirm academic and career goals before the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with your success coach to research your career options and opportunities for job shadowing.
  3. Meet with a faculty advisor or success coach regarding placement for the Cooperative course, if needed.

IEIR 1312 – Distribution Systems

ELPT 1341 – Motor Control

ELPT 1345 – Commercial Wiring This is the capstone course for this award.

ELPT 1329 – Residential Wiring (Course also applies to RC)

  1. Meet with your success coach to request an official program of study audit and confirm or update your academic/career path and program of study.
  2. After reviewing your degree plan and program of study, meet with your success coach to apply for the Commercial Electrical Technology Certificate, the Rising Electrical Technician Occupational Skills Award and the Rising Electrical Technician Certificate.
