This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Computer Information Technology Programming Awards. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn the Oracle Associate Skills Achievement Award. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. This sequence is for students who wish to prepare for the Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) certification exam. At this apprentice skill level, Oracle Associates have a foundation knowledge that will allow them to act as a junior team member working with database designers, administrators or application developers performing simple, operational tasks on an Oracle database with database software and graphical utilities associated with managing the database. Courses that complete the certificate are noted below.
Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.

CERTIFICATE MINIMUM: 6 SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS
PREREQUISITE
Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1301 as well as problem solving, logic structures, and relational database concepts as obtained in ITSE 1429, and either ITSW 1307/1407 or equivalent experience approved by designated personnel.
SEMESTER 1
CHOOSE ONE:
- ITSW 1307 – Introduction to Database
- ITSE 1303 – Introduction to MySQL
- ITSE 2409 – Database Programming OR
- ITSW 1407 – Introduction to Database
CHOOSE ONE:
- ITSE 1345 – Introduction to Oracle SQL This is the capstone experience for this award. OR
- ITSE 1445 – Introduction to Oracle SQL This is the capstone experience for this award.
