The Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.) is a Board-approved collegiate degree program consisting of lower-division courses intended for transfer to baccalaureate programs that lead to initial Texas teacher certification. This plan is for those who are interested in earning certification to teach Early Childhood – 6th grades, in a generalist classroom setting.

This pathway is an example course sequence for students interested in transferring to Texas Woman's University (TWU) to pursue the bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, with certification in grades EC-6, or 4-8. Following this pathway will help you earn an A.A.T. degree, EC-6. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. This pathway fulfills the Dallas College Interstate Passport requirements. The Interstate Passport at Dallas College is awarded to students who have achieved lower-division general education learning outcomes in a set of approved courses that are recognized by all other colleges and universities participating. Please visit the Interstate Pas​sport – Dallas College webpage for more information. Certain courses may not apply to the Passport block requirements.  See your success coach for more information.

SEMESTER 1

ENGL 1301 – Composition I This is a Core course. Must earn a grade of “C" or higher.

HIST 1301 – United States History I This is a Core course.

TECA 1354 – Child Growth and Development* This is a Core course.

SPCH 1311 – Introduction to Speech Communication* This is a Core course.

BIOL 1408 – Biology for Non-Science Majors I* This is a Core course.

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach to confirm your academic and career goals by the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with your success coach to research career options with a Teaching degree.
  3. Meet with a faculty advisor or success coach regarding placement for field observation required for EDUC 1301 course.
  4. Begin researching information at TWU to pursue teacher certifications in grades EC-6.

  2. Begin applying for Financial Aid and Scholarships. You can start the FAFSA in October for the next academic year. (i.e., in October 2022, you can complete the FAFSA if you plan to register for classes at TWU Fall 2023).
  3. Check with your success coach for important deadlines and dates.
