This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Computer-Aided Design Advanced Mechanical Drafting Certificate. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Computer-Aided Design Advanced Mechanical Drafting Certificate. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

This certificate program prepares a student to become certified as an advanced CADD operator. Coursework includes the creation of 2D and 3D CADD drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other modeling software in support of industry trends and technology advancements. In addition, the student would be capable of customizing the CAD software program, with additional skills in solid modeling and specific areas of CADD. Courses that complete this certificate also complete the Mechanical Drafting Certificate (MD).

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.

DFTG 1325 – Blueprint Reading and Sketching Mechanical based coursework (Course also applies to MD)

DFTG 1405 – Technical Drafting Mechanical based coursework (Course also applies to MD)

DFTG 1409 – Basic Computer-Aided Drafting (Course also applies to MD)

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

DFTG 1395 – Special Topics in Mechanical Drafting and Mechanical Drafting CAD/CADD

DFTG 1445 – Parametric Modeling and Design (Course also applies to MD)

DFTG 2432 – Advanced Computer-Aided Drafting

SEMESTER 2 ACTION ITEMS

  2. Meet with a faculty advisor or success coach regarding placement for the Cooperative Education course, if applicable.

  • DFTG 2380 – Cooperative Education-Drafting and Design Technology/Technician (Course also applies to MD) OR
  • Technical Elective (one course)* (Course also applies to MD)

DFTG 2440 – Solid Modeling/Design This is the capstone course for this award.

* Technical Elective must be selected from the following: DFTG 1329, DFTG 1333, DFTG 1358, DFTG 2323​ or DFTG 2435.
