This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Accounting. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Accounting. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official degree requirements.

The A.A.S. degree in Accounting is designed to prepare students for various career opportunities in accounting. Emphasis is placed on accounting procedures and generally accepted accounting principles. This program is intended to provide a foundation on which the graduate can build an accounting career through expanded experiences and/or further education. Completing the courses on this degree also completes the Accounting Assistant (AA) and Accounting Clerk (AC) Certificates. The student should apply for each certificate as it is completed. ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE MINIMUM: 60 SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS

SEMESTER 1

ACCT 2301 – Principles of Financial Accounting Must earn a grade of C or higher. ACNT 1303 and ACNT 1304 are recommended prior to enrollment in ACCT 2301 for a student with no accounting background. (Course also applies to AC, AA)

ACNT 1311 – Introduction to Computerized Accounting Must earn a grade of C or higher. (Course also applies to AC, AA)

ENGL 1301 – Composition I This is a Core course. Must earn a grade of C or higher. (Course also applies to AC, AA)

MATHEMATICS ELECTIVE This is a Core course. Must earn a grade of C or higher. There are several options to fulfill this requirement. See your success coach for a specific list. (Course also applies to AC, AA)

ELECTIVE Must take any three-hour college-level course to satisfy this elective requirement. (Course also applies to AC, AA). New England College recommends ENGL 2307, ARTS 1311, ARTS 1316, ARTS 2316, ARTS 2326, ARTS 2346, or ARTS 2356.
