This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Pediatric Cardiac Sonography. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Pediatric Cardiac Sonography Advanced Technical Certificate. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

The Pediatric Cardiac Sonography Certificate Option is for a student having at least a previous Associate Degree in a designated allied health field or a B.S. degree with a major in a science discipline with substantial patient care experience. Potential students will be considered on an individual basis to determine if they have an adequate background in anatomy and physiology, college algebra, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physics. A background in basic ECG is also required. Upon completion, a certificate will be awarded. Courses that complete the degree are noted below.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

A minimum grade of "C" is required in all courses.

COMPLETE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Completion of six Health Professions Readiness courses that satisfy the Health Professions Readiness I & II Skills Achievement Awards
  2. Two years' employment as a healthcare worker within a medical related laboratory AND Direct patient care experience within the last 5 years
  3. Current credential in a healthcare profession (e.g., RN, Medical Assisting, Radiography, Paramedic, LVN, etc.)

DSAE 2303 – Cardiovascular Concepts

DSAE 2661 – Clinical-Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Sonographer and Ultrasound Technician This is the capstone experience for this award.

DSAE 2355 – Echocardiography Professionalism and Registry Review
