This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Veterinary Technology. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Large Animal Veterinary Assisting Certificate. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

The Large Animal Veterinary Assisting program is designed to provide the graduate with the information, experience, and skills needed to perform all large animal veterinary assistant duties in a clinical practice or research setting. Admission to the Large Animal Veterinary Assisting certificate program is limited.

Students must apply and be accepted into the Veterinary Technology program before enrolling in any courses offered by the Veterinary Technology department. See ACTION ITEMS for additional information about application dates.

Students may complete the Large Animal Veterinary Assisting Certificate through the on campus or distance learning programs but should not attempt to complete the certificate with a mix of on campus and online courses. Please meet with an advisor to help you decide whether on campus or distance learning instruction will work best for you.

Gainful employment information is available for this certificate. Courses that complete the Large Animal Certificate are noted below. A grade of "C" or better is required for all courses.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.

  1. Meet with an advisor to confirm academic and career goals by the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with a career advisor or coach to research career options and opportunities for job shadowing.
  3. Meet with an advisor to discuss on campus and distance learning programs and choose preferred option
  4. On campus students apply for admission to the Large Animal Assisting program by June 1 to begin in Fall Semester, or November 1 to begin in Spring Semester.
