This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Networking Security Awards. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Convergence Technology Technician Certificate. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

This certificate builds on basic skills obtained in the Convergence Technology Intern certificate including basic switching and routing concepts, hardware and operating systems, virtualization, storage and security. More advanced networking concepts are developed with client and server operating systems and security. Courses that complete the certificate are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.

CERTIFICATE MINIMUM: 38 SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS

PREREQUISITE

Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1301 and ITSE 1429 or equivalent experience approved by designated Information Technology personnel.

ITSC 1405 – Introduction to PC Operating Systems

ITSC 1425 – Personal Computer Hardware

ITCC 1414 – CCNA 1: Introduction to Networks

ITCC 1440 – CCNA 2: Routing and Switching Essentials

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

ITMT 2405 – Designing and Implementing a Server Infrastructure This course is the capstone experience.
