The guided pathway in Biology will set the foundation to discover and understand how living things work in conjunction with their surroundings while utilizin​g skills based upon the scientific method. An Associate of Science Field​ of Study in Biology degree with courses i​n this pathway prepares you to transfer to the University of North Texas (UNT) to ea​rn a bachelor's degree that opens the door to a career in research, conservation, education, biotechnology, wildlife, forensics, the environment, pharmaceuticals, and many more areas.

This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Biology. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn an A.S. Field of study degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. Courses that complete the Field ​of Study degree are noted below. See the catalog for official degree requirements. This pathway does not complete the core.

BIOL 1406 – Biology for Science Majors I This is a Core course.

CHEM 1411 – General Chemistry I Prerequisite of MATH 1314, or equivalent academic preparation, prior to enrolling in the course.

CHOOSE ONE:    

  • ARTS 1301 – Art Appreciation This is a Core course.
  • DRAM 1310 – Introduction to Theater This is a Core course. OR
  • MUSI 1306 – Music Appreciation This is a Core course.

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your advisor to confirm your academic and career goals by the end of the semester.
  2. At the end of the semester, begin researching information at UNT, to major in Biology.
  3. Meet with a career advisor/coach to research your career options with a Biology degree.
